After making a deal with the devil to be freed from his canon's Hell, John awoke in a garage. He expected to be a voice in the mind of Arthur Lester, but instead he has full control of Arthur's body. Desperate to get his friend back, John has sworn to himself that he will keep Arthur's body safe.
He warily greeted Shadow and learned about Husks with Akechi, who witnessed a Husk's impersonation of "John" (Arthur) dying with his throat slit. John used his death-vision power to learn that the Husks were human and died in a flare of light from the sky, but he didn't share this information. Instead, John warned Levi against touching the Husks and avoided the worst of the fighting by sticking near Faith. Because of John's echoing metallic voice, Jayce attacked him with an eldritch blast from the hammer. John got away and has been keeping his distance ever since.
Once things quieted down, he marveled over the broadcast with Murderbot, and was offered friendly company and a snack by Jack before departure.
